Mexican Quarantini

With all the chaos and uncertainty stirring up anxieties during this global pandemic, it’s nice to see the creative and lighthearted methods of coping taking place. Netflix parties, socially-distant meetups at the park, Zoom birthday/bachelorette/baby showers, etc. People are realizing and prioritizing what truly matters; our connections to those we love, above all else.

The push to support our local businesses, especially restaurants, is at an all-time high. Many states with previously strict restrictions against departing a restaurant with alcohol are now packaging up their signature cocktails, in bulk sizes no less, for takeaway. Why does this make it so much more fun? Suddenly, bringing home food and eating in front of your TV is an act of celebration verse one of scrutiny and self-inflicted guilt. I love it!

Unfortunately, despite the many advantages of being quarantined in small-town Arkansas, on a beautiful farm with my family, one hardship is that we are in a dry county. (Pause for dramatic sigh.) So, even though we are taking the opportunity to support our local restaurants, we are still driving an hour to reach a liquor store. While wine and beer make up the majority of our meal accompaniments; on nights when we bring home my favorite, Amigo Loco, nothing pairs better than a fresh Mexican Martini. Or, Quarantini, as coined somewhere on Instagram.

So I thought I’d use some of my free time to share how we make these liberating libations at home.

Note: our favorite, in-house, Mexican Martini is from Polvo’s Austin, specifically on South 1st Street.
